Thrilling Thursday

 Thrilling Thursday

WHPC's Thrilling Thursday was a complete success! Our children had an amazing time doing ALL the fun things. We had bounce houses, homemade bubbles, reading with Ms. Peggy, water slides on our playground, paining with Lorraine, a balloon parade, Olympic relays, themed snacks, and most importantly a lot of laughter, friendships, surrounded by love. Thank you to everyone who participated. We are SO excited for next summer! Stay tuned dear families!

VBS - Start The Party

VBS - Start The Party

The party never stopped at VBS this year. We had so much fun with our children and volunteers as we learned all about how Jesus gives us endless reasons to celebrate. All week we danced, played silly and sometimes messy games, flew paper airplanes, and painted paper mâché bowls. What a blast to start the summer with so much joy and celebration for the Lord.

Confirmation Sunday 2024

Confirmation Sunday 2024

On April 14th, our church joyfully received 25 new members from this year’s confirmation class. These students gave so much of their time to this six-month experience of exploring their faith with gifted teachers and mentors. I was in awe when the three teachers spoke to their small groups at the breakfast that morning. One talked about the earnestness of her group - earnest in their pursuit of knowledge, with their questions and with their honesty. All talked about how privileged they were to walk alongside these students. It was such a beautiful example of the blessing that comes from serving others - especially young people.

It took a lot of people to make confirmation successful - staff, mentors, parents, teachers, and of course - you! Your financial giving allowed us to offer this amazing ministry for the year and to celebrate them well. Thank you!

2023 High School Winter Retreat

2023 High School Winter Retreat

This retreat was full of God-filled moments. From the student-led talks and student-written devotionals to the family-style meals and copious amounts of free time - these students I know experienced something miraculous. From camping on top of a mountain, to early sunrise kayak adventures, and all the free time to fellowship with one another in this community. I hope that you will be able to hear the God-filled stories in the coming weeks! To help you get a better picture of what it was like check out the pictures above!

Valentine’s Day Sunday Funday

 Valentine’s Day Sunday Funday

Our Sunday Funday gathering had us singing and smiling non-stop as we gathered together to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Kids made cards for their friends and families at our craft table, and decorated yummy cupcakes with candy hearts and m&ms. Then we had our unforgettable karaoke singing that had us up dancing and singing along with some of our favorite tunes. What a fun event!

YouthCUE 2022 DC

YouthCUE 2022 DC

On Saturday, July 2 at the Washington DC National Cathedral, Charlotte Blais, Taleesa Fox and William Nabors raised their voices with over 100 student singers from churches around the country at the 25th Nation’s Capital Festival of Choirs Grand Concert. The Festival is produced by YouthCUE, whose stated purpose is to teach and instill the astonishing power of musical arts as a means of changing the world for the better. Sacred texts are often embedded in the choral music YouthCUE sings, and those passages, combined with beautifully crafted music, enrich the students’ experience, and will remain with them for the rest of their lives. To sing at the National Cathedral is a memory of a lifetime – the holiness, the beauty, the grandeur, the acoustics of the Cathedral are magnificent and our WHPC students took full advantage of the opportunity to ‘sing praises to God in his sanctuary’.

Blueprint Ministries San Antonio Trip

Blueprint Ministries San Antonio Trip

33 participants went to San Antonio a couple of weeks ago and partnered with Blueprint Ministries. Blueprint Ministries is an urban home repair ministry, which consists of painting, repairing siding, or roofing someone's home. The WHPC team split into 4 work groups, and each team repaired a roof. We all became familiar with terms like tar paper, roll roof, weather guard, and orange caps. Each team enjoyed getting to know the homeowners through conversation, fellowship, and prayer.

VBS - Press Play

VBS - Press Play

VBS was a BLAST! We did everything from an air guitar competition to eating ice cream sundaes, to bible memory verses and learning all about the love of God. We had kids Press Play on confidence and learning to see themselves the way God sees them. Our hearts and souls were full seeing kids experience the love of Christ! What an amazing week! Thank you to all our volunteers and everyone who helped out. We couldn’t do it without you.

Painted Churches Tour

Painted Churches Tour

Forty-seven of us enjoyed a day trip to Schulenberg on a 55-passenger bus, to tour 4 of the 6 Painted churches and a delicious lunch at Oak Ridge Smokehouse. All were beautiful and well preserved. We were blessed with a knowledgeable tour guide, Pastor Andrew Stafford from St. James Missionary Baptist Church who has been leading guides for 11 years. A few of the standouts were: All were first built between 1855 and 1882; One destroyed by fire; One destroyed by a hurricane in 1909; One looked newest with red bricks but was old, the bricks were handmade by the members; 3 are still active and 1 has mass a couple of times a month. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and making new friends.

Promotion Sunday at WHPC

Promotion Sunday at WHPC

Promotion Sunday at WHPC was all cheers and laughter this Sunday in the gymnasium with our milestone transitions (rising 6th, 9th, and graduating seniors and their families). There was wisdom shared from key adults from the Music Ministry, Nursery, and Student Ministry, and working with the class of 2022 in those key areas. Following the adults, one youth from each grade level stood up and shared a word or phrase of wisdom to the grade below them. Key takeaways, you meet some pretty cool people at church and the food is better in Middle School then it was in Elementary! It was a grand time of fellowship and good food.
