Week Two

“Behold the Lamb of God.” In week 2, Pastor Stacy focuses on Handel’s depiction of Christ as both Shepherd and Lamb of God, using the prophet Isaiah’s description of the Suffering Servant. The class reflects on how we experience suffering in light of both “retributive justice” and “redemptive suffering.”

Week THREE

This week, we explore the rich theological connection between Psalm 24 and the triumphant chorus, "Who Is the King of Glory?" from Messiah.

How did Handel and his librettist, Charles Jennens, interpret this psalm? What might have been the original liturgical setting of these words in ancient Israel? And how has this powerful text been brought to life in performances across cultures and traditions?

Come along as we listen, reflect, and deepen our understanding of Scripture through the music of Messiah. This class meets on Sundays at 9:45 AM in the Dining Hall during Lent. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share!

Week FOUR

In the fourth session of our six-week Bible study exploring the scriptures behind Handel’s Messiah, Pastor Kevin asks the “big question”: What happens to us when we die? Together, we listen to the beautiful soprano air, “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth,” and dive into the Apostle Paul’s powerful words to the church in Corinth about the promise of eternal life.
